BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB - 2010 six a side tournament

 25th JULY 2010 -6 A SIDE TOURNAMENT

After the earlier date was cancelled due to the world cup football , teams were re-formed with captains racing against time to get their chosen players whilst others were dragged out of retirement and some were making their 1st appearance at Buscot. The draw was made at 9.45 by Chloe Heasman as players arrived for bacon and cups of tea, the draw pitched Mike Heasman's team (Stan's Livewires) against tournament favourites' Blockmeister'. The Livewires 52 was not enough despite Mike getting 2 wickets with his first 2 balls, Ian Oglesby and Rich Gardiner seeing their team home.Coleshill failed to appear so the Livewires stayed on the pitch to face The Likely lads, their lack of fitness started to show as they lost by 8 runs. The London Street Lions were tamed by The Afghans+1 whilst The Langford Juniors could not handle the pressure as they lost to The Leftovers with 1 ball remaining.

The game of the day saw The Likely Lads score 81 with Forthy and Bouwers getting 25 each, but The Blockmeisters kept up with the rate as Ian O and Rob Lovegrove both got 25, with 1 ball remaining they needed 1 run to win by hitting more sixes but Josh Kirk bowled Jonny G to win the game .The 2nd semi was more one sided as The Afghans +1 reached 81 as Namit and the Chairman exploited the Leftovers weakness (mainly cider and lager plus a lack of match practice) to win by 25 runs. The Langford Juniors proved too strong for The Lions as Harry Stevens hit 26 in their 77.John Morton hit 30 retired to record the highest score of the day.

FINAL                                                               THIRD/FOURTH PLACE                                                    PLATE FINAL
AFGHANS +1 v THE LIKELY LADS      BLOCKMEISTERS v LEFTOVERS/LIONS            LIVEWIRES v LANGFORD JUNIORS

The Juniors took the plate with Harry Stevens and George Dibble both going past 25 in the sides 74 as The Livewires could only manage 41 in reply, the 3rd place went to the Blockmeisters.
In the final an explosive 27 from 6 balls by Namat helped The Afghan + 1 to a total of 62, he then had Forthy and Louis out for ducks but Liam Farmer helped get his side back into the game but with 1 ball left they needed 10 to force a bowl off. Impossible ! but they nearly made it as panic set in from the fielding team. A wide took 4 runs off the target ,a couple of overthows helped as the batsman continued to run with the bails off ,Gary Thompson being the only one on the fielding side who knew that the stump had to be pulled out the ground while in contact with the ball, the batsman were finally out going for a 5th run and The Afghans +1 won by 2 runs.
