MARSHFIELD 3rds v BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 2nd ELEVEN on Sat 06 Jul 2013 at 2.00
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Lost by 3 wickets

Match report Five changes to the team this week and a Wiltshire League game between us from Oxfordshire and Marshfield from Gloucestershire. This was our one and only game this season to be played on an artificial wicket. With this in mind and on the hottest day this year so far with a strong batting line up playing against a team who like ourselves who had won only two games all season and bearing in mind we have lost 5 games batting second this season (can't think of any more reasons to justify the captain's decision to bat first....) Rob won the toss and chose to bat. It was soon time to start regretting this decision when early wickets began to fall and the Marshfield bowling line up was defying the fact they had only won two games this season. The ever reliable Herbie Townsend was the first to fall but his involvement wasn't over as soon he was back out in the middle to run for the injured Andy Morbey. Andy was keeping his end intact while wickets fell regurlarly at the other end until he fell for 30. Will Townsend came in at number 10 to score a quick 11 but the final score of 88 all out meant a very subdued tea time. This would never be enough and no real excuses for not scoring more runs on an artificial wicket. We took to the field with Patrick Slack and Will both bowled tightly from the start and in the 5th over Patrick took two wickets with the score now 8-2, Patrick struck again in his next over, now 9-3. A few overs later, their number 5 called for a second run and was struggling due to Pat's throw and Andy took the bails off. The batsman was two feet out and it was now 17-4 but no, their player umpiring despite sticking his arm out and pointing with his figure was saying not out. Everyone was amazed, annoyed and disappointed that the umpire chose to say not out with the batsman looking very sheepish getting back up from the ground. It could be a costly decision as the batsman then hit two fours but fortunately a fielding change meant that Richard Gardiner took a catch and now 31-4. Paul Farmer was now bowling and took a wicket, 38-5 and then another, 39-6 Will took the next with an LBW, now 48-7. At this stage we were looking favourites but their number 9 came in and took control with a quick fire 31 not out and supported by their number 7. We were probably one more quick wicket away from claiming a victory but it was not to be. A disappointing team batting display and maybe only another 40 would have been required. Some good bowling though from Patrick, Will and Paul gave us a chance. Next week will be a relegation battle with Westbury.
