BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 2nd ELEVEN v BEEHIVE 2NDS on Sat 19 Jul 2014 at 14.00
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Lost by 16 runs (target reduced to 176 off 39 overs)

Match report After last weeks forfeit, we managed to eventually get 11 players for this week. The game had been in doubt due to the rain but after two morning pitch inspections the wicket was still playable so the captains decided to just turn up and see what happens weather wise. The weather was fine at 2pm so we started on time with Buscot fielding first. Will Thompson took the first wicket by bowling their captain and not to be out done by his son, Gary Thompson started to practise his bowling action at gully (I did notice Stuart Burchett practising at slip and Tom Lawrence practising his action at cover so a few hints were taking place) and replaced Will after his opening spell. Gary took 3 wickets in his 12 overs. Paul Farmer replaced John Slack at the other end and took two wickets in his 12 economical overs. Their number 3 was scoring quickly before Andy Morbey stumped him off Paul's bowling. John came on at the other end and bowled 5 overs 1-17 in his second spell. With one over left, Nick Edgington bowled it and took 2 wickets for 2 runs to finish off their innings. Soon after tea, the rain came and we lost 51 mins of play so our innings was reduced to 39 overs and a new target of 176. Andy and Paul put on 101 for the 2nd wicket and scored 60 and 48. Gary continued the scoring with 23 and we were looking favourites needing 29 off 4 overs with 6 wickets remaining. The collapse started and we lost 6 wickets for 12 runs so eventually lost by 16 runs. It was a good effort and a good game. Unfortunately we equalled the 2nd team league record for most ducks in an innings with 6 which was set in 1988 by Geoff Edgington, Gareth Thomas, Rob Morbey, John Morbey, Roy Heasman and Ian Talbot in a score of 43 all out (at least most of the ducks from the Beehive game were the result of a frantic run chase and wickets were unselfishly given away due to trying to score late runs).

Andy Morbey's score of 60 is his 36th score of 50+ for the 2nd XI in league cricket (5 centuries and 31st fifty, 19th at home and 17 away) - not including 1996 as no information available for that season.
