Match report On a windy but dry day at Bassetts new ground, it was nice to have a firm pitch and an outfield that should have been full of runs to play on for the first game of the season. They say 'tails never fails', and so it proved to be, and I decided to have a bat.

Hamish and Charlie gave us a base, putting on 43 for the 1st wicket, but scoring proved a little more difficult than I had hoped. Other than Sanjay hitting a 4 and two 6's in a brief 19, the innings never really took off from there though, and it ended into the 41st over at just 114.

It was a target we were never going to defend, unless we took 10 wickets, so we needed to get in amongst them early. Unfortunately, the hoped breakthroughs never materialised and only when the scores were level did we finally get a wicket with Gary holding onto a catch off Charlie at long on!

The pluses I take from this game were seeing the potential of some of our younger players, with a special mention of Zak. He bowled straight and with good pace for a 14 year old, and where did he get that arm!!!

Anyway, onwards, and what can surely only be upwards to our next game at home to Trowbridge. Come on the Park!
