BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 1st ELEVEN v HEYTESBURY & SUTTON VENY 2NDS on Sat 16 Jun 2018 at 13.00
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Won by 120 runs (target reduced to 256 runs off 42 overs)

Match report On a day when a little rain was forecast for the early afternoon, skippy managed to finally win his first toss of the season. Not expecting the rain to come to much, I decided the best bet was to have a bat, and avoid having to bowl with a wet ball.

After just about avoiding coming off on one or 2 occasions, the weather eventually forced us off after 14 overs with the score at 64 without loss. A great start from Dan and Hamish, but we didn't want to be off long given the way the game adjustments favour the team batting second with the rain rules. Luckily the 40 minutes we were off only meant a 3 over reduction to Heytesburys innings, so it didn't prove to be anything major. Play resumed, and so did the partnership. At 102, Dan finally perished caught and bowled by young spinner Butler for a well made 59. Ronny was pushed up to 3 due to the good start and didn't disappoint, powering his way to 50 in just 9 overs bfore being bowled by a ball that kept a bit low. 166 for 2 soon became 172 for 3 when Hamish was joined by Aaron. With Aaron playing in pretty much the same vein as Ronny before him for 48 not out, the innings closed at 274 for 3 with Hamish carrying his bat for 74 not out.

Half time refreshments were taken with the weather now looking set fair for the rest of the day.

The new ball was taken by Thatch and skippy (given his need to try and get a bit of form back after last weeks pie throwing!). Surprisingly, skippy surprised both openers with better balls to reduce Heytesbury to 15 for 2. A cautious partnership then moved them along to 51 before the 3rd wicket fell to Stan, soon followed by his second making it 58 for 4. Ben took the 5th wicket at 90 before Stan took his 3rd to leave them 99 for 6. A run out and an LBW from Thatch made it 8 down, before Aaron came back to bowl the last 2 batsmen to finish the innings off with their score at 135 and complete a 139 run victory. Well done yet again the Park!

Stats from the game ;-

Aaron Court's score of 48no is his highest in league cricket for the 1st's beating his previous highest score of 47.
Three batsmen scoring fifty or more in a 1st XI league game has only happened on four previous occasions (once in 1998, twice in 2010 and once already in 2018).
The score of 274 is the 1st XI's 5th highest ever score at home in the league (highest 4 scores are 373, 325, 299, 297) and 8th highest in all league games (373, 325, 299, 297, 292, 287, 278).
The last time the 1st XI won 5 consecutive games (not including forfeits and cancelled games) was in 2015.
