BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 1st ELEVEN v BECKINGTON 2NDS on Sat 11 Aug 2018 at 13.00
Match was Abandoned

Match report British summertime returned to something more normal as we welcomed Beckington. The morning had been sunny but breezy, but by the time of the toss the sky had turned distinctly grey! With rain expected later, skippy had no hesitation in asking our opponents to have a bat upon winning the toss (3 on the bounce now!).

Beckington started very cautiously against Thatch and Aaron, not scoring a run off the bat until the 5th over, and at 10 overs they were 9 for 1 with Aaron taking the wicket caught by Dan at wide slip. With the change of bowling wickets began to tumble (Will taking a couple, Matt another) as the batsman looked to up the scoring rate. After 21 overs the score had reached 49 for 4 and things were looking good, but Caddis and Wilkinson started to get the scoreboard moving more freely. When Ben bowled Caddis for a quickfire 32, the score had move on to 111 with 15 overs still remaining. This slowed the scoring again, before Wilkinson was removed by a very sharp catch from Hamish off Mike. Ben and Mike worked their way through 3 of the 4 remaining wickets to reduce Beckington to 149 for 9 with just 2 overs left. The final wicket then proved elusive, as the last two bats pushed the score on to 168 for 9 at the completion of the innings.

Tea was taken with the weather looking ever more threatening. Fingers and toes were crossed that we would have long enough to get a result.

As Dan and Hamish went out to open the innings, the rain started to spit and spot. By our calculations, we needed a minimum of 94 inside 25 overs to make it a game. Runs came freely, but the rain also started to become fairly heavy. After 5 overs, and with 53 for 0 on the board, the players came off.

We had an hour and 40 minutes available to us to try and get the game going again. But with no prospect of it stopping and drying up enough to start again, the captains shook hands with half an hour still remaining, and called it off.

Frustration again for us, as that's 2 games in 3 weeks now that we've just missed out on what should have been comfortable victories. The only concillation this time is that all other games in our division had a similar fate.

Oh well, on to Heytesbury & Sutton Veny next week, hopefully with some dry weather!
