HEYTESBURY & SUTTON VENY 2NDS v BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 2nd ELEVEN on Sat 25 May 2013 at 2.00
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Lost by 9 wickets

Match report 2nd team league debut for Alex Disbury.

This week the 2nds had the trip to our furthest journey (55 miles, almost 90 mins) of the season to Heytesbury to play Heytesbury and Sutton Veny 2nds. Unfortunately this journey was made with only 9 players so a difficult game was expected against a team who had won all 3 of their games so far. Heytesbury had batted first in all of these games with high scores each time so it was a surprise that the Heytesbury captain won the toss and decided to bowl first. Herbie playing his first game of the season looked comfortable and did the job required of him by batting overs and keeping his end intact. Paul Farmer coming in at number 4 scored at a good pace and with Herbie scoring increasingly quicker Paul and Herbie put on 97 runs for the 3rd wicket. Paul was caught out to an excellent diving catch by the Heytesbury captain for 36 and Herbie followed 2 balls later for 34. It was left to Rob Morbey (32no) and Aaron Court (10no) to finish the innings with Buscot scoring 165 for 4. This was a good batting display as each batsman knew that they had to stay at the crease as long as possible to use up overs as we only had 9 players to bat. This total would only be good though if we could bowl and field well. The early wickets required didn't materialise and Heytesbury got off to a flyer. The first wicket fell at 36 in the 6th over. The hope was to get another couple of quick wickets to put Heytesbury under some pressure but with 2 players light in the field, it was easy for their batsman to find the gaps and score quickly. Their 16 year old opener was dropped on 25 and went on to score 90no with their number 3 being dropped twice on his way to what was presumably his maiden 50 based on their players cheering and the fact that the opener gave up on scoring a century to allow his partner to reach his 50. Aaron was the most economical bowler with 3.2 good overs for only 13 runs. John Slack picked up the only wicket. This was always going to be a difficult game but with only 9 players it proved too much. We have now played the top two sides so hopefully we can get a full side out next week and start competing for victories.....
