Match report The 1st game of the new season and the wrong call on the toss of a coin sent us into bat on what may have looked a good pitch but was anything but, we were soon 13 for 4 after 12 overs as the unpredictable bounce and a couple of useful bowlers made it difficult batting conditions.Tony Summers on his debut and skipper Andy Morbey steadied the innings but scoring runs were still difficult ,they moved the score to 52 ,then Rob Morbey helped Tony put on another 45 runs before Tony was out for 27. Rob went quickly afterwards for 24 , Paul Farmer hit the first 6 of the season before we were all out for 114 off 42.4 overs.
The Cherhill innings got off to a steady start as the openers put on 47 before Tony got his first wicket for the club , the 2nd opener went next over after Craig Bell took a catch at slip off Paul Farmer. Tight bowling meant scoring was slow but we could not make another breakthrough and Cherhill reached the target in the 40th over.
We were probably 30 runs short and perhaps with Mike Heasman bowling we may have restricted the score even more, overall a reasonable start to the year and at least we fielded 11 players !
