BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB News story

2016 Season and The 125th Anniversary

14 Feb 2016

If it's not too late a very happy New Year to everyone and here's to our 125th anniversary

This will be an exciting season for the club and one I hope more and more members, friends and visitors will be able to enjoy; on that note if you can encourage more juniors and adults to join the club this would be a great season to really give our membership a bit of a boost

There is quite a bit of information to pass on to help to get the season off to a good start albeit still February so please take the time to digest all this and to plan your season -

Firstly our 125th Anniversary will formally kick-off on Saturday 30th April with the official launch of the 125th season and the opening of the clubhouse extension, which we are very pleased to say will be carried out by Lord Faringdon. We shall be having drinks and a light buffet at lunchtime with the formalities followed in the afternoon by Lord Faringdon's XI (skippered by George Henderson, his grandson) taking on a Buscot Park CC XI (skippered by Club Captain, Liam Farmer). All members, friends and family will be welcome to come along and enjoy the day

To mark the anniversary we are producing a commemorative fixture list this season with photographs and news clippings taken from the 125 years of history - make sure you get your copy when they are published and PLEASE do support the advertising sponsors!!

Pre-season junior coaching and nets will again be taking place at Cokethorpe School (our grateful thanks to the school for this) however we shall be on the all-weather outdoor net facility and not indoors. With weather obviously a factor the school have allowed us to pencil-in 7 Sunday afternoons in March and April, 4 of which we can hold our nets on. The decision will be made late in the previous week as to whether we are on or off for each Sunday so please keep an eye on your e-mail and the website for that decision. Times are 2.00-3.00pm - Under 11s (soft ball); 3.00-4.00pm - Under 13s (hard ball); 4.00-5.00pm - older juniors and adults

On the ground a huge amount of work has been carried out during this mild winter and the square is in particularly good shape; with a new care plan in place from the team of willing groundsmen our facilities will be in great shape for this season - there will be work party sessions required to get everything ready so when those dates are published please do your best to come along for an hour and do something to help

On the cricket front on top of the full Wiltshire League fixtures of games for the 1st and 2nd XIs we have entered the Bernard Tollett Cup, an OCB mid-week 20/20 competition, we shall have regular friendly fixtures including a match against the Wiltshire Cricket Association over 50 team, a local club 20/20 competition will be held at Buscot, plus our own 6 a-side competition in June. And of course do not forget tour!! First one for a few years and looking forward to a few days cricket in Exeter - all are welcome, contact Gary Thompson if you would like to be added to the party

I think that is all for now, watch this space for more information and I look forward to seeing you at nets, working parties, or the launch on 30th April

Regards

John
