BURBAGE & E.R 3 v BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 2nd ELEVEN on Sat 01 May 2010 at
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Lost by 102 runs
Match report
The start of the 27th season for 2nd XI in league cricket.
The record so far in 26 seasons is played 375, won 185, lost 180, abandoned 10 (actual games, not including forfeits).
2nd team league debuts for Sabrullah Naizai, Jamie Hillier, Jonny Gardiner and Namat Ullah Jabakhail.
The new season's 1st match, saw the 2nd XI, travelling to Burbage & Eaton Royals 3rds, with only 10 players. Captain Farmer won the toss and decided to bowl first, this looked to be a good decision as tight opening spells from Namat and Jonny were supported with tidy bowling from Ali Barron, and the evergreen Jon Slack. Ali then took Richard Gardiner's place behind the stumps and this seemed to pay dividends as the spinner bowling a blinding spell of 8-31 from his 9 overs, this wrapped up the Burbage innings for 140 all out.
Then came the batting, this was probably an innings most wanted to forgot with the team eventually being all bowled out for 38
So 6 points to start the season off which isnt too bad but obvious areas for improvement!
Richard Gardiner took his maiden '5-wickets' so his figures of 8-31 are his best 2nd team league bowling figures beating his previous best of 2-32.
Richard's figures of 8-31 are the best 2nd XI bowling figures in the league since Will Townsend took 8-12 at home to Marlborough 2 in 1994.
Richard's figures of 8-31 are the best 2nd XI away bowling figures beating the previous best of 7-34 by Chris Edgington away to Westbury 3 in 1993.
Ally Barron's first league stumping for the 2nd XI so he becomes only the 7th 2nd XI wicket keeper in 27 seasons to take a league stumping for the 2nds (Andy Morbey, Gareth Thomas, Cyril Knox, Rob Morbey, Des Williams, Tom Lockley, Ally Barron).
Scoring 38ao off 26.3 overs is the 2nds lowest ever league score beating 43ao at home to Moredon Royal Oak in 1988 and 43ao at home to Box 2 in 1998. The previous lowest away score was 49ao at Kington Langley in 1985.
