BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 2nd ELEVEN v BOX 2 on Sat 22 May 2010 at
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
2nd team league debuts for Waheedullah Babakarhil, Andy Dunbar and C Spencer.
On a glorious afternoon at the home of cricket, in what seemed a pretty vital toss, not for the first time this season P.Farmer lost the toss and Box decided to put the Buscot boys into bat, after the early loss of yet another debutant, Waheed, P.Farmer and in-form M.Green put on 44 at a good rate before the loss of Monty. A steady rate of runs from P.Farmer, Ally, Andy and L.Farmer saw the score to 115-6, with 9 overs to go, then the tail added valuable runs through sensible batting and for the first time in the season we batted out all our overs and finished on a very respectable 154-9, with everyone making there own contributions with the bat, even Slacky!
After a world-famous Buscot tea, on a sweltering day, the troops returned to the pitch to defend their total. Box started like they were in a rush, and after a rapid start, good consistent bowling from J.Gardiner and Chris Burgess rewarded the team with a wicket a piece, then came an absolute clanger of a drop from the experienced pro-wicket keeping of Liam. On a drying pitch the spin of R.Gardiner and steady line and length from Slacky gave buscot 3 more wickets and a sniff of victory but sensible batting from a young pair for Box saw them home in 35 overs.
A much-improved batting performance, but the toss seemed to decide the outcome of the match, but very encouraging stuff and a solid 6 points.
Liam Farmer's first league stumping for the 2nd XI so he becomes only the 8th 2nd XI wicket keeper in 27 seasons to take a league stumping for the 2nds (Andy Morbey, Gareth Thomas, Cyril Knox, Rob Morbey, Des Williams, Tom Lockley, Ally Barron, Liam Farmer).
