BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 2nd ELEVEN v BOX 2NDS on Sat 01 Jun 2013 at 2.00
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Lost by 39 runs
Match report
Our second home game of the season and gladly back to a full 11 players after last week travelling with only 9. Hopes were high as we were now able to compete on an even level, the toss was won by Buscot and Box were put into bat. Will Townsend picked up the first Box wicket after 3 balls and further wickets were taken regularly with Box being 37-4 in the 13th over. Rob Morbey positioned himself in the right place to be able to take 4 catches for the first 4 wickets (Will Townsend 3 wckts and Pat Slack 1 wckt). Box then put on a good stand for the 5th wicket to recover their innings. This including some big hitting from the Box number 6 although he was fortunate early on to survive some near misses and a couple of difficult chances. We then suffered our second high scoring over of the season with this time 28 runs (6,0,6,6,6,4) not quite matching the 29 runs conceded from 1 over 2 weeks previously. I'm sure there has been a hotly disputed debate in the Slack household about which of these overs was the best or unluckiest. Paul Farmer was brought out of bowling retirement to spare the juniors but fortunately John Slack tempted their batsman to go for one big hit too many which saw Andy Capper standing in the furthest corner of the ground waiting patiently for the ball to come down far from the sky. Much to the relief of all bowlers and fielders, Andy stood firm to hold onto the ball with an inch or so to spare inside the boundary. Paul picked up a wicket in his 3 economical overs and John picked up the last 3 wickets quickly so Box were finally all out for 154 in 34 overs. Rob caught the last man to end up with 5 catches. Charlie Morgan fielded excellently including a direct hit run out that was given not out to the dismay of all fielders. John took 5 wickets again to finish with 5-39 off 11 and he will be going for his hattrick ball next Saturday. Unfortunately not so much to write about for Buscot's batting apart from Herby Townsend who showed the rest of the batsman that runs could be scored and the run chase was there for the taking. Herbie batted through the innings for a deserved 63no but 6 other batsman were out for single figures. Ally Barron batted down the order due to nursing an earlier fielding injury and finished not out with Herbie to bring the final score to 115 for 6. Losing by only 39 runs meant that the win was on if a couple of other batsman had scored 20-25 and been able to stay with Herbie. Next week sees us travel to Devizes so this is an important game against a team one place above the 2nds.
John Slack's figures of 5-39 is the 8th time that he has taken 5 or more wickets in a league game for the 2nd's (3rd at home and 5 away).
Rob Morbey's 5 outfield catches is the first time that anyone has taken 5 catches in one game for the 2nd XI.
Herby Townsend scored his maiden fifty for the 2nds so his score of 63no is his highest in league cricket for the 2nd's beating his previous highest score of 45.
