BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 2nd ELEVEN v WESTBURY 3RDS on Sat 13 Jul 2013 at 2.00
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Won by 8 wickets
Match report
2nd team league debut for Stuart Burchett.
Four changes to last weeks team and a home game on the hottest Saturday of the year so far. Westbury were our visitors so hoping to beat them after a close game at their place earlier in the season. An early wicket from Patrick Slack gave us a good start at 8-1, then a few boundaries from their number three quickly took the score to 44-1 off 12 overs. John Slack came on and bowled him with his first ball and then bowled another to start with a double wicket maiden. Between the 10th and 22nd over was a time for the many spectators to go for a walk as only 4 runs were scored in 12 overs with tight bowling from Will Townsend and John. The run rate increased after this but never going over 3 per over. Will finished his 12 over spell only conceding 16 runs and bowling 65 dot balls with only 7 balls conceding runs. John took another 5 wicket haul with his 5th wicket coming from his last ball from a well judged running catch by Herbie Townsend. Patrick bowled 11 good overs picking up 2 wickets and Charlie Morgan bowled 8 economical overs of spin. Richard Gardiner bowled 2 of the last 3 overs with the batsmen only able to score 4 singles from him. The total of 122 should well be within reach. Herbie was out early but an 88 partnership between Andy Morbey and Paul Farmer in only 17 overs ensured that we were well on our way to victory. Andy was out for 57 which included 13 boundaries. Richard joined Paul at the crease and both saw us home and ensured we got to 125 for the extra bonus point. Paul was 39 not out and hit 8 boundaries. It turned out to be a comfortable win for our 3rd win of the season. Next week a very tough game away to Lacock.
John Slack's figures of 5-30 is the 9th time that he has taken 5 or more wickets in a league game for the 2nd's (4th at home and 5 away).
Andy Morbey's score of 57 is his 33rd score of 50+ for the 2nd XI in league cricket (5 centuries and 28th fifty, 16th at home and 17 away) - not including 1996 as no information available for that season.
