BEEHIVE 2NDS v BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 2nd ELEVEN on Sat 17 May 2014 at 14.00
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Lost by 103 runs
Match report
The start of the 31st season for 2nd XI in league cricket.
The record so far in 30 seasons is played 429, won 206, lost 212, abandoned 11 (actual games, not including forfeits).
2nd team league debut for Jonathon Moore.
After a forfeit and a weather cancellation, the 2nds finally began their season. Due to an illness which resulted in a late call up to the 1sts for Craig Cook, the 10 2nd team players (plus George’s mum) made the long journey to Southwick. Liam's journey was alot further though from Plymouth.
Buscot Park bowled first and opened with the mixture of youth and experience and both George James and Paul Farmer bowled tightly picking up wickets. Charlie replaced George after his 5 over spell and also bowled tightly. Wickets were taken regularly and at the drinks break, Beehive Southwick were 43-5 off 23 overs. Paul finished his 12 over spell and only conceded 16 runs. Their next pair put on a good partnership but with John Slack bowling well from one end we were still in the game as the target was never looking to be too high. JJ Moore on debut was unable to get a consistent length after a while away from bowling (probably keeping wicket too often) so another wicket keeper came onto bowl instead. Liam Farmer took 2 wickets in two balls but the excitement of being on a hattrick and emulating his friend Andy Capper who is the last 2nd team bowler to take a hattrick proved too much as the umpire turned down the LBW appeal.
The final score was 148-8 from 45 overs with 5 bowlers taking wickets. Unfortunately only having 10 players probably resulted in 20 extra runs that they were able to pick off easily in the space where a fielder could have been. Anyway, 149 was still a gettable target. But then it all went wrong, the three 14 year olds (Charlie, George, Tom Lawrence) scoring over half the runs between them with Charlie being our top scorer with 13. The adults only scored 15 runs in total including 3 ducks so we were bowled out for 45 in the 22nd over.
No game next week so hoping we can get 11 players for the trip to Devizes in 2 weeks time.
