Match report 2nd team league debut for Alistair Hunt.

With 4 adults and 7 juniors, this was probably our most inexperienced side the 2nds have ever took the field with. Marlborough won the toss and put us into bat which gave us the first problem of the day, who can umpire. Thankfully Alan volunteered. Gary Thomson and Tristan King scored some quick early runs before Gary skied one to their captain. Clive Smith hung around for a while before Tristan was bowled, scoring 18 in the process in his first innings for the 2nds. Alistair Hunt came to the crease and was soon scoring boundaries including the 2nds 3rd six of the season but was unfortunately bowled before he could reach his maiden 50 for Buscot. Will Thompson had to face their best bowler and saw off a few of his overs to save the lower order. Rob Morbey and Tom Lawrence put on a few runs together with Tom getting his highest score in senior cricket and finished on 21no. Nick Edgington then came in at 11 to hit a couple of fours and also scored his highest score for the 2nds. Buscot finished on 176 all out but almost batted out the overs so was a good effort. Matthew Hunt took a couple of early wickets and with the score at 18-2, Marlborough knew they were in a game (if they win, they win the league). With the score on 51-2, Charlie Morgan came on to bowl and first ball their batsman chipped the ball in the air but unfortunately it was dropped and their batsman settled down and went on to score 69no. Two more wickets were taken but then their number 6 came in and decided to finish the game very quickly. Marlborough scored the runs at a good rate but unfortunately we could not get the wickets and lost the game by 6 wickets. Not a bad result with such a young side against a team who have now played 9, won 9.

Alistair Hunt's first league stumping for the 2nd XI so he becomes only the 9th 2nd XI wicket keeper in 27 seasons to take a league stumping for the 2nds (Andy Morbey, Gareth Thomas, Cyril Knox, Rob Morbey, Des Williams, Tom Lockley, Ally Barron, Liam Farmer, Alistair Hunt).
