MARLBOROUGH 3rds v BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 2nd ELEVEN on Sat 16 Jul 2016 at 13.00
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Lost by 46 runs
Match report
A tough week trying to get 22 players but we made it with Stuart Burchett's late inclusion into the side. Stuart arrived after 13 overs with the score on 38-3 but some good partnerships of 48, 76 and 48 unbroken meant that Marlborough finished on 194-5. This included a 90no by their 12 year old batsman O Whitely. Two run outs helped as wickets were hard to come by but the wicket was playing well so not out of the game yet.
John Slack was settling down to eating the best away tea of the season so far and then given the news that he was opening the batting and tried not to choke on his spicy samosa.
Unfortunately John's best batting run of his 2nd XI career (34 unbroken runs with scores of 6no, 17no, 9no, 2no) quickly ended causing John great frustration at being out.
Stuart started to smack fours regularly and Jason Court also in a 55 partnership which included Jason making Stuart run a three. Stuart was having no more running in that over so hit three 4's to finish the over. Another good 49 partnership between Stuart and Nick Edgington meant we were well up with the run rate. Stuart was then out for 84 with the score on 112-3 in the 25th over. Stuart obviously disappointed not to reach 100 but we tried to make him feel better by saying he would have settled for 84 at the beginning of the game. Matthew Lawrence quickly brought him down to earth by saying he isn't even top scorer in the game. At the 25th over, Marlborough were 70-3 with Buscot on 116-3 so well ahead of run rate at this stage. Dave Burke scored a quick 18 but at the other end we were suffering the Buscot batting collapse with 3 wickets falling on 130. We never recovered and finished 148 all out. Losing by 46 runs but still with 58 balls remaining.
Highest score of the season so far, 84 by Stuart Burchett.
Stuart's score of 84 is his highest in league cricket for the 2's beating his previous highest score of 31.
Stuart's 84 has set a new record for the 2nd's highest score in Division 9 beating Rob Morbey's 58 at home to Winsley 3 in 2016 (our first season in Div 9).
The Divisional highest scores by 2nd XI are ;-
Div A Colin Pratt, 132no away at Winsley 2 in 1995
Div 4 Andy Morbey, 101 away at Cherhill in 2008
Div 5 Dave Norman, 127no away at Langley Burrell in 1989
Div 6 John Blackwell, 135 at home to Heytesbury in 1993
Div 6b Tom Lockley, 105 away at Goatacre 3 in 2000
Div 7 Andy Morbey, 111no at home to Devizes 3 in 2015
Div 8 Paul Farmer, 95 away at Chippenham 4 in 2012
Div 9 Stuart Burchett, 84 away at Marlborough 3 in 2016
Stuart hit 16 fours which is the equal 3rd most ever by a 2nd XI batsman in an away game (behind 21 by Andy Morbey at Purton 2, 2003 and 17 by John Blackwell at Wootton Bassett 2, 1994 and equalling 16 fours by Andy Morbey at Bathford 2, 2015).
Daren Fisher's score of 4 is his highest in league cricket for the 2's in his short batting career for Buscot so far.
John Slack demolished the stumps by knocking over middle, off and leg stump but unfortunately this wasn't when bowling, but when reversing his car straight over the practise stumps to much cheering and applause by both sides enjoying the complimentary beers from the fridge.
2nd's all time record against Marlborough is now Played 20, Won 9, Lost 9, Abandoned 2.
Milestones approaching;-
Paul Farmer needs 33 more away runs to reach 1000 away league runs for the 2's.
Richard Gardiner needs 41 more runs to reach 500 league runs for the 2's.
Charlie Morgan needs 1 more run to reach 250 league runs for the 2's.
Stuart Burchett needs 7 more runs to reach 250 league runs for the 2's.
Jason Court needs 27 more runs to reach 250 league runs for the 2's.
John Slack's next maiden bowled will be his 100th league maiden for the 2's.
Rob Morbey's next catch will be his 150th known league catch for the 2's (not inc 1996 as no info yet).
