BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 2nd ELEVEN v BATHFORD 2NDS on Sat 30 Jul 2016 at 13.00
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Another tough game anticipated against 3rd place Bathford. Somehow we managed to get 11 players together despite only having 7 fit players on Thursday. Bathford arrived early at 12pm with 8 players and their 9th turning up sometime after the start. Their 9 players did though contain Oscar Wilson who scored 177 in the away fixture.
2nd team league debut for Shaun Lawrence.
It didn't take long for their captain to start hitting big with a 6 off the 2nd ball.
The first wicket was taken by Aaron Court and was caught by Rob Morbey which was his 150th known league catch for the 2nds (114 outfield catches and 36 wicket keeping catches / 65 at home and 85 away) - still to add on 1996 season so maybe 1 or 2 more.
The Bathford captain reached his 50 in the 9th over. He was out though in the 12th over for 62 so now Buscot could start to get back into the game. Zak Trivedi taking the very important catch off Aaron's bowling who was bowling with pace and accuracy and lots of bounce.
John Slack came on at the bottom end and quickly found his rhythm. His 2nd over was a maiden which was his 100th league maiden for the 2nds. Only Will Townsend, Chris Edgington, Mike Heasman, Jeff Heasman, Mike Tuffnell and Tony Watts have currently bowled more. John then went on to bowl 5 more maidens and finished with 9-6-7-2. Only conceding 7 runs off 9 overs is a new league record for the 2nds beating the 13 runs conceded by Mike Heasman at home to Westbury 3 in 1986 (9-4-13-2).
These are the revised records for anyone who has bowled 9 overs in a league game ;-
Best bowling is 9-0-31-8 by Richard Gardiner away at Burbage & ER 3 in 2010.
Least runs conceded is 9-6-7-2 by John Slack at home to Bathford 2 in 2016.
Most runs conceded is 9-0-80-2 by Patrick Slack away at Bathford 2 in 2016.
At the other end Matthew Lawrence finished his spell after the early onslaught and Patrick Slack bowled his remaining 7 overs for only 18 runs.
Their 8th (and final) wicket put on a frustrating 51 runs until Tom Lawrence came on and took the last wicket.
Tom Lawrence's 1-0 is his best 2nd team league bowling figures beating his previous best of 1-19.
The 2nds needed 160 to win so would need contributions all down the order. Jason Court was looking in good form and after Jason and Rob Morbey saw off the opening pair's 18 overs, Jason got the 'magic ball' from their captain's first ball as it pitched outside leg and hit the off stump bail.
Shaun Lawrence on debut scored 10 including his first 2 fours in league cricket.
Tom Lawrence not to be outdone by his dad, scored a good 15.
Rob Morbey scored his 2nd league fifty of the season.
Zak Trivedi's score of 21no is his highest in league cricket for the 2's beating his previous highest score of 9.
Zak and Aaron knocked of the winning runs and despite only needing 1 to win, they both had a Forrest Gump moment and both just kept running until one of them was run out (not actually out as ball was dead as soon as the 1 run was completed).
2nd's all time record against Bathford is now Played 5, Won 3, Lost 2.
Despite winning we did drop a place to 5th but we have now closed the gap and our next game is against 2nd place, so still everything to play for.
Milestones approaching;-
Paul Farmer needs 33 more away runs to reach 1000 away league runs for the 2's.
Richard Gardiner needs 29 more runs to reach 500 league runs for the 2's.
Stuart Burchett needs 1 more run to reach 250 league runs for the 2's.
Jason Court needs 2 more runs to reach 250 league runs for the 2's.
