BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Lost by 19 runs

Match report The 2nds first home game of the season and only their second game saw new faces and an old one return , with 3 players making their debuts and Will Townsend returning from retirement.
Buscot won the toss and decided to bowl , Matthew Lawrence made the breakthrough with older brother Tom taking the catch. Charlie Symonds on his bowling debut was bowling with pace at the other end without much luck and after 11 overs Devizes were 51 for 1 , the skipper asked Will if he could bowl a couple of overs and with his first ball he had the opener out caught by Shaun. 9 overs later he had bowling figures of 9-4-8-2 (which included a 4 and a wide ! ).At the other end 13 year old leg spinner Max Blackburn took 2 wickets in his first over of league cricket. After 20 overs Devizes were 65 for 5 but the next pair put on 67 thanks to several dropped catches including 2 of 2 balls for unlucky bowler Tom, they eventually finished on 183 for 7.
Chasing 40 more than we should have been we lost Alex early before Paul and Matthew put on 17 , Paul caught and bowled via bowlers boot , fingers , arm then hands ! Matthew was joined by dad Shaun and some good 4's and quick running from Matthew although we not sure Shaun appreciated it. Gavin on debut joined Matthew and scored 9 before Matthew was out.
Tom and Andy were keeping up with the run rate before Tom went for 25 , with 10 overs left we needed 60 but it was just a few too many.
A good friendly game which had we taken our catches we could of won but all the new players showed promise, hopefully they will play more this season whilst Will looked like he had never been away despite his 66 years !!

Will Townsend just missed out equalling the 2nd XI all-time league record for most economical 9 over bowling spell. This is held by John Slack who had figures of 9-6-7-2 at home to Bathford in 2016.
