LACOCK 2nds v BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 2nd ELEVEN on Sat 20 Jul 2013 at 2.00
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Won by 5 wickets
Match report
This week we had the trip to Lacock to play top of the league hoping to seek revenge for the 142 run defeat at home earlier in the season. The toss was won by Buscot and Rob chose to bowl first in the hope of keeping down the score on the small ground and then be in with a chance of the run chase. The perfect start was made when Mike Heasman bowled their opener in the first over with the score still on nought. Barry Harding and Tim Culling were at the crease and have both had high scores against us in the past but they were finding runs hard to come by before their captain sliced one in the air to Richard Gardiner off Will Townsend's bowling. Lacock were now 23-2 from 14 overs so a good start by Buscot. Another skyer was caught by Rob Lovegrove so 34-3. Mike was taken off after 10 overs to save him later for when Matt Lever came into bat. Will then took his 3rd wicket and finished his 12 overs with 3-29 (13 coming off his first 3 overs so a good comeback to only concede 16 from his last 9 overs). Louis Bouwers had a bowl and did well in his first 3 overs but at this stage it was time to bring Mike back on and the plan worked as he bowled Matt Lever with his 2nd ball before he could do any similar damage to our bowlers like he did at home when scoring a quick fire 83. Mike finished with 2-14 from 12 overs. Richard was bowling tightly at the other end and was now time for Andy Capper to come onto bowl. Andy bowled one of the many Harding's from Lacock before Richard had their top scorer caught for 28 by Paul Farmer. Their number 9 decided to go for quick runs but then went for a suicidal second run to Louis who returned the ball to Richard for the run out. Richard finished with 2 wickets in 2 balls with figures of 3-24. Lacock's total of 114 all out was much less than we could have hoped for on their tiny ground and a team in form. This will be a total within our reach as we do bat all the way down to 11 today. Before this though was time to eat the delicious Lacock tea and Paul discovering the delights of meringue's. We made a good start and put on 24 for the 1st wicket but soon this was 24-2 and not looking so good. Andy Morbey hit 4 boundaries but was next out at 39-3 and the top 3 now back in the pavilion but Louis quickly increased the scoreline with some 4's and a couple of sixes to overtake Richard as the teams big 6 hitter of the season. Unfortunately Louis was out so 66-4 quickly followed by Liam so 67-5. Rob Morbey now joining Rob Lovegrove at the crease with still 48 to win but still with plenty of batting to come from the four rested bowlers. With some variable bounce happening in the Buscot innings it meant some determined grass cutter blocking and also bouncer avoidance from both Rob's but with Rob L scoring some good boundaries to finish unbeaten on 29 and a few welcome extras the two Rob's were able to put on 49 in 14 overs to win by 5 wickets. Against the top team at the time this was our best performance of the season. Time to go to the local Lacock pub and enjoy the win. Next week another game against the league leaders as Heytesbury & Sutton Veny are now in first place.
