BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 1st ELEVEN v WILCOT on Sat 19 May 2018 at 13.00
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Won by 154 runs
Match report
On a glorious afternoon, skippy managed to make it 2 out of 2 (losses) on the tosses, but was extremely happy to be invited to have a bat!
Hamish and Dan Batchelor (on debut) opened up and looked in no real bother as they went past 50, then a hundred before Dan finally fell for 92 (caught at extra cover) with the score at 141. In at 3, it was great to welcome back Ronny Fernandes, who didn't hang around as the scoring rate was increased. Hamish fell a little unluckily bowled for 66 as he aimed to deposit a long hop into the trees, but with the score on 259, it could hardly be deemed wreckless! Aaron joined Ronny, and survived a desperate appeal from his first ball, much to the apparent annoyance of the fielders! But unless there has been a rule change, I don't think you can be caught off the flap of your pad? Maybe I missed that bit at the Umpires Forum!!! Anyway, I digress! The two then saw us through to the end of our 45 overs with more lusty blows, and a total of 325 for 2, Ronny finishing on 115 not out including 6 sixes.
Half time tea was taken, before we took our turn to bowl on a very friendly looking pitch. Wilcot openers Oliver and Windsor got the off to a flying start, with Oliver playing some very nice lofted drives. With the change of bowling though, wickets started to tumble, Will taking the first 3 to fall before taking a well earned blow. Then the 'spin twins' got down to business, slowly working their way through the middle order, before Thatch came back to (nearly) mop up the tail. I say nearly, as Dan was thrown the ball for his first spell, only for us to be heading for the bar after his first ball as the Wilcot innings was wrapped up with their score at 171 giving us victory by 154 runs.
So far, so good! :-)))) This week, it's Blunsdon away. Let's hope the good form continues!
And over to 'Stato'!
1st team league debuts for Daniel Batchelor, Tony Farrell and Gavin Blundell.
Highest partnership of the season so far, 141 for the 1st wicket by Hamish Millar and Daniel Batchelor. This is a new 'known' 1st XI league record for an opening batting partnership beating the previous record for an opening partnership of 138 by Des Williams and John Booth at home to Burbage & ER in 1981. (there are quite a few score books missing so partnership records includes 26 seasons with 12 seasons missing).
This partnership of 141 is currently the 5th known highest 1st XI league partnership (the highest being 216 by Hamish Millar and Rob Able for the 3rd wicket at home to Bradford-on-Avon 2 in 2013).
The 2nd wicket partnership of 118 by Hamish Millar and Ronny Fernandes is also a 'top 25' known 1st XI partnership in 19th place.
Highest score of the season so far, 115no by Ronny Fernandes.
Ronny's century is the 31st league hundred (16th at home) scored by the 1st's by 16 different batsmen. Ronny's 3rd hundred means he now joins Hamish Millar (5), Bob Deane (3) and Louis Bouwers (3) to have scored more than 2 league hundreds for the 1st XI.
Ronny's score of 115no is a new record for the 1st's in Div 6 beating the previous highest score of 96 by Louis Bouwers away at Burbage & ER 3 in 2018.
It also a new 1st XI record against Wilcot beating Bob Deane's 82no at home to Wilcot in 1981.
115no is the highest home score in the league for the 1st's since Ronny himself scored 121 at home to Avebury in 2007.
Ronny hit six 6's in his innings which is equal 3rd most in a home 1st XI league innings behind his own 15 6's against Cooper Avon Tyres in 2006 and Bob Deane's 7 6's against Avon Sports in 1982 and equal to his own 6 6's at home to Avebury in 2007 (may change if missing scorebooks can be found, especially 2006 scorebook).
Daniel Batchelor scored 92 on his 1st XI league debut. The 1st XI record for a league debutant is 126no by Fergus Mitchell at home to Cooper Avon Tyres on 06 May 06.
Three batsmen scoring fifty or more in a 1st XI league game has only happened on three previous occasions (once in 1998 and twice in 2010).
The 1st's score of 325 is their 2nd highest ever league score only behind scoring 373-6 at home to Cooper Avon Tyres in 2006. It is the 2nd time scoring 300+ runs in the league for the 1st's.
The 1st XI divisional batting highest scores are now ;-
Div 1 Ronny Fernandes, 121 at home to Avebury in 2007
Div 2 Ronny Fernandes, 194 at home to Cooper Avon Tyres in 2006
Div 3 Gary Thompson, 102 away at Devizes 2 in 2009
Div 3N Bob Deane, 139no at home to Avon Sports in 1982
Div 4 Louis Bouwers, 179no away at White Horse in 2016
Div 5 Hamish Millar, 109no at home to Bradford-on-Avon in 2013
Div 6 Ronny Fernandes, 115no at home to Wilcot in 2018
The 1st XI divisional record batting partnerships are now ;-
Div 1 Neil Phillips / John Morton, 134 at home to Winsley in 1999
Div 2 Neil Phillips / Bob Deane, 150un away at Swindon Civil Service in 1989

Div 4 Tom Dutton / Louis Bouwers, 159 away at Beckington in 2015
Div 5 Hamish Millar / Rob Able, 216 at home to Bradford-on-Avon 2 in 2013
Div 6 Hamish Millar / Daniel Batchelor, 141 at home to Wilcot in 2018
