BECKINGTON 2NDS v BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 1st ELEVEN on Sat 09 Jun 2018 at 13.00
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Won by 8 wickets
Match report
After a long trek out into Somerset, and only arriving with about 10 minutes to spare, skippy managed to lose my third toss in three. Perhaps it was for the best, as I was a little unsure what to do. As it turned out, neither was my opposite number! At length, he chose to bat on a pitch with plenty of grass still on it.
While Thatch kept a tight rein from the one end, skippy seemed to think the middle of the pitch needed testing out, with expensive results. In his second over though, he managed to fool the opener by pitching one up and fooling the batsman! In his next over, the other opener couldn't make up his where to hit yet another gift, and only proceeded to teasingly lob it up in the air half way back up the pitch! Leaping like a Salmon (Ahem!), it was gobbled up (the tremour being felt upto 50 miles away!). 2 down in 6 overs. Thatch removed the next 2, before Matt Lawrence's tight bowling finally earnt him his first richly deserved wicket. 5 down, and still only 49 on the board. 6 and 7 fell, and still no more runs added (another one for Thatch, and a run out from Hamish standing at short leg with the batman not even in the frame!). 2 runs added, and Matt took his second, before a bit of late resistence was offered by Beckington. The last 2 wickets being taken by Mike and Will. 96 all out in just under 26 overs.
Tea was postponed until 4 o'clock to allow the sponges to thaw thoroughly. So that left us about 40 minutes to bat before we got to sample them. Hamish and Gary (returning from retirement) opened up, and proceeded to deal almost exclusively in boundaries as they set about getting on top of the target. With the score at 54, and just 5 and a half overs gone, Hamish was run out. Enter Ronny! This only led to an upping of the run rate as the boundary began to be cleared. With his score on 46, Gary snicked one through to the keeper with just 4 needed for victory. Gavin saw off the last ball of the over before Ronny hit the winning boundary with just 8.4 overs bowled. Phew! Now, was tea ready? :-)
Victory by 8 wickets, and 24 points. A very good result.
Stats from the game ;-
Matthew Lawrence's 2-13 is his best 1st team league bowling figures beating his previous best of 1-13.
Hamish Millar scoring 20 all from boundaries isn't quite the record as the 1st XI league record for the highest score all scored from boundaries is 24 (6 x 4's) by Neil Phillips at home to Great Bedwyn in 1997 (although still a few score books to be found)
This game lasted for 34.3 overs. The 1st's shortest ever league game was away to Beehive Bradford in 2011 and lasted for 31.0 overs (Buscot Park 45ao off 22 overs, Beehive Bradford 48-1 off 9 overs).
Scoring at an innings run rate of 11.42 per over is a new 1st team league record. This beats the 8.29 per over scored (373-6 off 45 overs) at home to Cooper Avon Tyres in 2006. The previous highest run rate for a run chase was 7.51 per over (204-3 off 27.1 overs) away to Beckington 2 in 2015.
Winning in 8.4 overs is a new 1st XI league record beating the 15.5 overs that were required to win away to Westbury 3 in 2010 (Westbury 80ao, Buscot Park 83-1 off 15.5 overs).
