BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB 2nd ELEVEN v WANBOROUGH 3rds on Sat 24 Jul 2021 at 13.00
BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Patrick Slack now has 97 2nd XI league wickets which puts him in 9th place in the list of most league wickets taken for the 2nds (Glenn Townsend has no wickets included for 1996 so likely to have more than 96). John Slack is in 2nd place with 272 wickets, Mike Heasman in 6th place with 114 wickets and Paul Farmer in 7th place with 106 wickets.
Patrick bowled 7 maidens in his 9 over spell which is a 2nd XI record for most maidens bowled since the maximum overs per bowler was reduced to 9. Patrick beats John Slack's 6 maidens bowled (9-6-7-2) at home to Bathford 2 in 2016, Will Townsend's 6 maidens bowled (9-6-9-2) away at Goatacre 4 in 2017 and Gavin Yon's 6 maidens bowled (9-6-8-1) away at Goatacre 4 in 2021.
Patrick only conceding 3 runs from 9 overs is a new 2nd XI record for the most economical 9 over spell beating the previous record of 7 runs conceded from 9 overs (9-6-7-2) by John Slack at home to Bathford 2 in 2016.
Patrick conceded his first run on his 39th ball bowled so 38 balls bowled without conceding a run is a new 2nd XI record for most balls bowled before conceding a run, beating the previous record of 31 balls bowled by Tony Summers before conceding a run away at Cherhill in 2009 with bowling figures of 12-9-7-1.
The most maidens ever bowled in a game by a 2nd XI bowler in league cricket is 11 by Will Townsend who had figures of 13-11-3-3 at home to Calne 2 in 1985. This spell of bowling by Will is also the record for most consecutive maidens bowled (9) and most consecutive dot or wicket balls bowled (55).
The top 5 most economical bowling by anyone bowling at least 5 overs are 0.20 runs per over (5-4-1-2) by Jonathan Taylour away to Mildenhall in 2005, 0.23 runs per over (13-11-3-3) by Will Townsend at home to Calne in 1985, now 0.33 runs per over (9-7-3-1) by Patrick Slack at home to Wanborough 3 in 2021, 0.43 runs per over (7-4-3-1) by Will Townsend away to Box 2 in 2002 and 0.50 runs per over (6-4-3-0) by Chris Edgington at home to Langley Burrell in 1989.
Paul Farmer has now scored 2561 runs which is currently 3rd on the all-time run leader list for 2nd XI league games behind Andy Morbey 7510 and Des Williams 3191 with Rob Morbey 2541 (includes 30 estimated for 1996) and Ray O'Neill 2529 making up the Top 5 run scorers for the 2nds. These totals will change for some if we can find scorebooks for 1996 and 1999 (Andy and Des runs are included for 1999 as per WCCL handbook but only Ray's fifties in 1999 included as no other detail for other scores). For 1996 only 101 runs included for Ray as per his 101no scored in 1996. Colin Pratt and Cyril Knox may also have reached 2500 runs if we can find the scorebooks for 1996 and 1999.
Mike Heasman's 19th run in this game was his 1000th league run for the 2nd XI (446 home runs and 554 away runs, 67 innings, 2 50's, highest score 68).
Mike has now become only the 4th 2nd team player to achieve the 1000 league runs and 100 league wickets double. With 1000 runs and 114 wickets, Mike joins Jeff Heasman who scored 1951 runs and took 158 wickets, Will Townsend who scored a known 1090 runs and took 618 wickets (not including 1996 season for Will as no records as yet) and Paul Farmer who has scored 2561 runs and taken 106 wickets. Tony Watts has 1463 runs and 99 wickets but we have no scorebook for 1999 so if he took a 2nd XI wicket in 1999 he will also have reached 1000 runs and 100 wickets for the 2nd's.
Mike is the 15th known batsman to reach 1000 league runs for the 2nds.
2nd's all time league record against Wanborough is now Played 9, Won 3, Tied 1, Lost 5.
Milestones approaching ;-
Andy Morbey needs 2 more dismissals to reach 300 known league catches and stumpings for the 2's.
Patrick Slack needs 3 more wickets to reach 100 league wickets for the 2's.
Stuart Burchett needs 29 more runs to reach 500 league runs for the 2's.
John Slack needs 36 more runs to become only the 2nd player to reach the 250 runs / 250 wickets league double for the 2's.
