BUSCOT PARK CRICKET CLUB Won by 36 runs
Match report
With three changes to last weeks team, we made the trip to Marden for what should have been our shortest away trip for this season but a missed turning for some of us and so a detour probably means that Devizes away was our actual shortest journey. Forecast was not good so expecting an on off day in the field. Their 'ex Faringdon player' captain put us into bat so Herby Townsend and Andy Morbey opened up and both played themselves in on a pitch that had some variable bounce. 19 runs came off the first 10 overs with 58 runs being scored from the next 10 overs. Andy was first wicket to fall on 94 in the 25th over and scored 43. Herby continued his consistent season but was out soon after for 33. His 33rd run being his 200th run of the season. At 101-2 this should have meant that we could go on and be looking for 175 for the innings. Unfortunately with Paul Farmer looking in good touch, his captain called for a very badly judged run which left Paul stranded yards short and run out. Some other bad shots and dubious shot selection saw a collapse which was only saved by Richard Gardiner and Will Townsend scoring 10 and 9. The last 7 wickets fell for 19 runs to ruin the good start made by the openers. All was not lost yet though as Burbage would still have to bat and score 136 to win. Mike Heasman opened the bowling and gave us the perfect start when he bowled their captain in the 1st over and Mike's 2nd wicket came via a catch by Paul in the gully. Burbage then started to score a bit easier but Will took their 3rd wicket with the score on 52 from 16 overs. Their number three had scored 42 when he clipped the ball to square leg off Mike's bowling and Patrick Slack held on to a very good forward moving catch. Mike then took two more wickets to finish with 5-37 from 12 overs. The score was 72-6 after Mike's and Will's 24 overs so Richard and John Slack then came onto bowl to hopefully take the remaining wickets. In less than 9 more overs the last 4 wickets were taken with Richard finishing with 3-15. Both Will and John had the hard task of bowling into the strong wind and bowled economically. Patrick took two catches and ran all around the outfield stopping the ball with all parts of his body saving important runs. The last wicket fell to a run out from John's quick and accurate throw to stop their 2nd run which meant that Burbage were 99 all out and we also gained the extra bonus point. This was our 2nd successive win and has moved us into 8th place.
Mike Heasman's figures of 5-37 is the 3rd time that he has taken 5 or more wickets in a league game for the 2nd's (1 at home and 2nd away).
